New Seed Extract PCR (SE-PCR) test for SLRSV in tomato and celery

Publicationdate: 11 september 2024

Since September 1, we can test for the presence or absence of Strawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRSV) on tomato and celery seeds. The fast, reliable and sensitive seed-extract PCR method is selected for this test.

Technique for rapid amplification of DNA

This is done with the help of pathogen-specific building blocks. The increase in DNA can be monitored digitally at any time. This makes it possible to faster and with more certainty confirm whether the seed samples actually contain the pathogen.

SLRSV

SLRSV causes problems in celery, among other crops, in the Northern Hemisphere. It is considered a quarantine organism in Norway, Canada, USA, Mexico, Tunisia, Israel and China. Transmissibility of this virus via infected seeds has been confirmed for lily. Other crops where SLRSV causes problems include fruit crops such as strawberry and raspberry (mainly vegetatively propagated), but also crops such as parsley and asparagus.
