Registering a vegetable variety for inclusion in the European common catalogue is not always necessary. A vegetable variety that is solely intended for marketing to so-called third countries does not need to be registered. By so-called third countries, we mean ‘non-European member states’.
Instead of inclusion in the European common catalogue, you can have a variety included in the Internal Naktuinbouw list.
The basis for the Internal Naktuinbouw list can be found in the Inspection Regulations, article 14. It follows from this article that all propagation material intended for export must comply with all European requirements. Companies may deviate from this. Provided that the material complies with the requirements of the third country and that it has been reported to Naktuinbouw.
With the Internal Naktuinbouw list, we implement the reporting obligation. In addition, inclusion in the Internal Naktuinbouw list ensures that the name of a vegetable variety is known by us. This prevents another company from trying to get a vegetable variety under the same name on the European common catalogue. In such a case, we can alert companies to this.
You can find the fee per application here. Variety Testing processes the requests for inclusion in the Internal Naktuinbouw list.
Please use the application form Internal Naktuinbouw list. You should also send a technical questionnaire of the vegetable variety (a so-called TQ).
